REVIEW: New Leaves, No Strings by C. J. Fallowfield

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Mia and Lexi are best friends, heading to Uni and away from home. They vow to each other that they will both turn over a new leaf with the beginning of their new life. Mia, a somewhat uptight virgin, is going for the no strings attached sex, while Lexi, who is very experienced in the no strings approach, is going to try to her hand at having a relationship.

During this venture Mia meets a breathtaking swimmer, Gabe, that has her literally fainting upon sight of him. She decides not to tell him that she is a virgin and he takes her out on all kinds of sexcapades not aware of the fact that he is about to be her first. Mia shows enough natural ability in her actions in and outside of the bedroom that Gabe doesn’t even realize that he has just deflowered her until after the fact. Mia and Gabe struggle with the fact that Mia is not looking for anything real but Gabe is fast falling in love with her. This book approaches both of their insecurities as they try to find a middle ground that will work for their relationship, while having some very steamy encounters.

Lexi tries to take her relationship with a one night stand to the next level but it just doesn’t work for her. Later in the book, which focuses mostly on Mia and Gabe’s relationship, Lexi gets some troubling news that her no strings lifestyle has led her to consequences that are going to stick with her for a while. This issue ends up being a huge misunderstanding between Gabe and Mia as well at the end.

I struggled getting started with this book but I was relieved to not be reading another love story about a billionaire that falls in love with a common girl. In the end I was definitely pulling for Mia and Gabe’s relationship.  For a first book, I would have to say that C. J. Fallowfield is going to end up with a great series on her hands, I love the character development and can’t wait to see what comes next.
