So I know that I am a little late jumping on this bandwagon, and that so many people are going to be unhappy with my review. Just please keep in mind that it is just my opinion.

This is a love story between two sick teenagers, Hazel and Gus. It tells of how they met during a support group, both suffering from disease. Hazel is terminal and Gus seems to be cancer free and no worse for the wear other than being an amputee. Hazel shares her obsession of her favorite book with Gus. The book is the story of a young girl that suffers from a terminal illness as well, Hazel has been frustrated for some time regarding the way that this story ends and has tried a number of times to reach out to the author, who has become a recluse in Amsterdam, to which she has not gotten any responses. Gus does finally have some luck getting in contact with the author through his assistant and they are both invited to Amsterdam. They make the trip with the help of the wish program, where they fall in love and Hazel learns that Gus' health is not as good as she thought that it was. The rest of the book contains the struggles while Gus goes down hill.

I was worried to read this book because I was afraid of the emotional response that it would cause. Several people I know, many who have similar tastes in books that I do, absolutely LOVED this book. Unfortunately, I really had no emotional response what-so-ever, I did not hate this book, but I did not love it either. It was a sweet story and the idea behind it was great. I did not get moved by the character development and felt that there was just not enough substance to the story. Part of my problem with the book may have been all of the hype that has surrounded the book, which raised my expectations of the book.

Even though this book was not my cup of tea, I definitely see where it is very moving to other people. I say that it is still worth reading if you are interested, just not to get your hopes up for a miraculous piece of literary work.

REVIEW: New Leaves, No Strings by C. J. Fallowfield

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Mia and Lexi are best friends, heading to Uni and away from home. They vow to each other that they will both turn over a new leaf with the beginning of their new life. Mia, a somewhat uptight virgin, is going for the no strings attached sex, while Lexi, who is very experienced in the no strings approach, is going to try to her hand at having a relationship.

During this venture Mia meets a breathtaking swimmer, Gabe, that has her literally fainting upon sight of him. She decides not to tell him that she is a virgin and he takes her out on all kinds of sexcapades not aware of the fact that he is about to be her first. Mia shows enough natural ability in her actions in and outside of the bedroom that Gabe doesn’t even realize that he has just deflowered her until after the fact. Mia and Gabe struggle with the fact that Mia is not looking for anything real but Gabe is fast falling in love with her. This book approaches both of their insecurities as they try to find a middle ground that will work for their relationship, while having some very steamy encounters.

Lexi tries to take her relationship with a one night stand to the next level but it just doesn’t work for her. Later in the book, which focuses mostly on Mia and Gabe’s relationship, Lexi gets some troubling news that her no strings lifestyle has led her to consequences that are going to stick with her for a while. This issue ends up being a huge misunderstanding between Gabe and Mia as well at the end.

I struggled getting started with this book but I was relieved to not be reading another love story about a billionaire that falls in love with a common girl. In the end I was definitely pulling for Mia and Gabe’s relationship.  For a first book, I would have to say that C. J. Fallowfield is going to end up with a great series on her hands, I love the character development and can’t wait to see what comes next.

Better Things To Do Tuesday!

I am working on getting this blog all up and going. I am definitely looking for any advice on my previous review (things a review should include, formatting, etc), as well as current posts! I have also been checking out other blogs in order to see what others do with theirs.

Unfortunately, it is time to work! I would much rather be outside with a book. I guess I will settle with being in a cubicle, listening to a book instead of reading :) either way you gotta feed the addiction.

Please feel free to leave me any feedback @ readingrealityescape@gmail.com

REVIEW: The Chase by Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg

I am absolutely in love with this series!!!! I have been a huge Janet Evanovich fan for some time. This series brings together Nick Fox, a sexy con man, and Kate O'Hare, an uptight FBI agent. Kate has spent a long time trying to bust Nick. However, in The Heist, they find themselves on the same side. Now Kate is trying to pretend that she is still on the search for him. According to her fellow FBI agents, Nick Fox is on the lamb and Kate is vigilantly on the look out for him. All the while against Kate's better judgement they are working together under the direction of her bosses. The connection between Nick and Kate is very enticing. I like to see the development of each of them as the stories have continued and how each of them is influencing changes in each other. I am very excited to see what comes next between the two of them.

I am also enamored with the relationship between Kate and her father Jake. The background of the books show that Jake was a loving father as Kate and her sister were growing up, however with his military career he missed out on a lot of their lives. Jake chooses to make up for this to Kate by assisting with her assignments, no questions asked. The dynamic between them is one that any little girl wishes to grow up having with her daddy, even if you aren't out fighting crime. The story also incorporates characters from the first book such as Boyd, the eccentric actor, and Willie, the kinda whorey speed freak. As well as a few new characters as well. I can't wait to see what happens with this crew of somewhat misfits out fighting crime next!
